Turn Performance Feedback Into Inspired Action

  • San Francisco, CA (map)

Conversations about your performance at work can be incredibly difficult. Strong emotions are triggered. You dwell on critical details. When feedback feels unclear or surprising, you don't know how to get better information.

During our combined 35 years as corporate employees and managers, we experienced feedback conversations that supported significant career growth and reviews that were just painful. Now, as career coaches, we want to empower people to become powerful advocates for their careers, using feedback to accelerate their development.

This interactive event will focus on how to get the most value from recognition and criticism and why including emotions makes the conversation more effective. We will share practical tips (think templates and scripts) as well as self-awareness practices to help each participant prepare for conversations with their managers. The workshop will include:

  • Strategies to maximize the value of three phases of the annual feedback conversation

  • Mindfulness tools to understand and work with emotional reactions

  • Response plans for feedback that feels surprising / poorly delivered / inaccurate

  • Unconventional strategies for identifying inspiring, career-impacting development actions

  • A simple framework to set a successful foundation for the next performance cycle

This event includes teaching, group discussion, experiential learning, guided self-reflection, with an invitation for paired follow up to further integrate the strategies learned in the workshop. Each participant will leave with a personalized worksheet that includes steps they can take immediately.

*Light snacks will be served.
